Hey guys! I just came back from a week - long trek in the Himalayas, and it was such an unforgettable experience! It was amazing and horrible and scary and challenging and liberating and awesome and... I literally can't describe it!
Sometimes I loved it and sometimes I nearly cried! It was definitely very challenging, and I am so proud of myself for accomplishing it.
So first of all, my trip started in Rishikesh. We spent a day there before going to the base camp, and it was wonderful! The teachers just let us all roam around the market and explore the city by ourselves. I had tons of fun exploring the local market, buying stuff, even in bargaining! I even tried a chocolate banana cake at a local cafe, and it was literally the best cake of my life! I had never felt so free and happy:) That night, however, there was a little (Okay, it wasn't little;)) fight between my group, but as always, we solved it! That was probably cause we all were stressed out and worried about the trek!
The next day, we reached the base camp and immediately started trekking. As soon as we began, it began raining! ( THE. SHITTIEST. LUCK. EVER.) And it kept raining for the entire trek. Even though we were wearing raincoats, I was completely drenched. I had NEVER felt so freaking cold in my entire life! We reached the camp and our tents, but we had to wait for 2 WHOLE HOURS before we could change! Ahh that night was... well, certainly one I'll never forget.
The next day was a rest day, and we mainly spent the morning trying (and failing:/) to dry all of our stuff. In the evening, we went into a jungle to collect sticks for the campfire. That trek was so slippery, and I kept falling all the time. Standing up straight was difficult. We finally managed to get sticks and had a campfire and ate maggi ( That was a blessing😍).
The day after that day was the main day. It was when we were supposed to do the actual trekking. The goal was to reach the summit or at least the temple on top of the mountain. The day was a very cheerful and sunny one, and without the rain, I actually enjoyed the trek very much. Halfway through the trek, however, A few of us got lost! There was no teacher or guide with us and we had no idea where to go! That was scary and hell. It was one hour before a guide found us and let me tell you, I have never been that happy to see another human being before! As we lost one hour, we couldn't reach the summit but we did the reach the temple. It was such a surreal experience! I was completely enchanted by the snow. Snow was not a common thing for me, and I wanted to imprint the pretty image on my mind. That day is one I'm gonna remember for the rest of my life.
The next day we again trekked down to the base camp and set off for Haridwar. Although I loved the trek, I nearly cried with relief when we reached the hotel! I was so freaking thankful for the washroom and the bed. The day after that, we went to the mall in Haridwar, and watched a movie. It was pretty enjoyable. After the mall, we directly went to the airport to catch our flight back home.
Ah home sweet home. I had never ever ever felt so freaking happy on seeing my bedroom and washroom. It felt like coming back to the 21st century! This trip had been so memorable and challenging for me, and I am certain that I'll never be able to forget it. Have you ever gone trekking? Would you like to?
